Tarot is an amazing tool of transformation. We all know the stereotype of the old Gypsy woman foretelling the future with the cards. But how do Tarot cards really work?
The 78 cards of the Tarot deck represent either archetypal energies within yourself or another (22 Major Arcana cards) or situations in which you may find yourself (56 Minor Arcana cards). Read together the Tarot can reflect back to you where you are currently on your life journey and what you are contributing to your particular situation.
How can a random shuffle of the cards predict the future I hear you say! A common question put to Tarotists. I have two answers: first the ideas behind quantum physics inform us that there is a phenomenon called the ‘observer effect’, that is that you are not shuffling the deck of cards as a separate object from yourself. Your interaction with the cards is affecting the outcome (ie: your shuffle produces the spread). Second, I do not believe that Tarot predicts the future as such. What Tarot does is to explain the energies and potential of the here and the now. This gives an indication of what direction you may be heading, but the future is not set in stone, and when your patterns of behavior or archetypes change, so do the Tarot.
